The self titled album Metallica was released on August 21, 1991
in the U.S. on Elektra Records (9-61113-1)
and in Europe by Vertigo Records (5-10022-1)
It was the first Metallica album that was given plenty of radio airtime
and Metallica generated a larger mainstream fan base.
The "Black Album" is one of the best selling Rock albums of all times.
